How to Be Brave When You Don’t Feel It

I grew up wearing a straight jacket.

There were so many rules for what a girl could and couldn’t do. My brothers stated their opinions freely. They made many mistakes in the name of “finding their true selves.” Boys were bred to be brave.

Not me. A Hmong girl didn’t get into trouble or make mistakes. But even after I knew the Lord, I kept up with the rules. They were in me. A crack in my image devastated me, and the fear of failure kept me safely on the shores of mediocrity.

The problem was God called me, and success required courage.

You cannot make an impact on the Church, without knowing how to fail well. I had to learn to step out of my comfort zone and take chances.

Stop waiting for your skills to reach 100% before you step out. Be brave and make some mistakes.

Here Are 3 Ways To Ditch Perfection And Become Courageous:

#1 Break Off the False Doctrines

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” - 2 Corinthians 10: 4-6

Perfection is over-rated.

God never expects perfection. He is perfect so you don’t have to be. False doctrines are straight jackets that keep you (and the anointing) imprisoned.

Renounce the agreement you made with the enemy and renew your mind with the Word.

#2 Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;” - Philippians 2:12

Paul didn’t say to stop moving forward because you’re afraid. He said, “Do it afraid.”

Step out while you tremble in uncertainty. When God says, “Go,” Go! The secret is as you move forward, the fear melts away.

Don’t wait to feel ready, know your capabilities and trust God to qualify you.

#3 Ignore the External Warfare

Ditch the porcelain doll image.

You’re no “girl next door,” and neither were the leading ladies of the Bible. Stop trying to color within the lines. These are the women listed in the lineage of Christ: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary (Matthew 1:1-16).

These boat-rocking, controversial women didn’t fit the status quo. You don’t either.

God is raising up a generation of women to march onto His battlefield. We are gladiators who know how to nurture and obey the voice of God. We ride into battle, holding swords covered in enemy blood. We are gladiator women.
