How My First Sermon Helped Me Find My Grace

My first sermon was 15-minutes. I've sat through “offering plate” build-ups longer than that! I didn't present revelation that could challenge a theologian. Isn't that what you should do when speaking the word of God?

I listened to powerful teachers, that quenched my thirst like spring water on a summers’ day. I wanted people to walk away from my message feeling the same.

I strived to match up. Instead I felt like I missed God and failed His people. I cried out to Lord, “What am I doing wrong? Why can't I teach like others and bless your People?”

He said, “Because I don’t need more teachers. I need prophets.”

I felt the weights fall off, “I can do that! I can be a prophet.”

I felt the shift. I felt hope again, “I can make a difference, I have a God-given grace!”

I want you to know that you are more than enough. The Lord anointed you with His grace. Be confident because God called you. Don't compare yourself to others. Instead, see how you can add to them and work as a team. What missing pieces can you add? Because you have eyes to see what's different, you are positioned to bring success.

Walk in your grace and love God's people - that is all He requires of you. I know you can do that!

I leave you with this verse, “And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.” - John 4:36 NKJV
